Earlier this week we reported on how investments have been coming back for the state university endowments and trust funds managed by the University of Texas Investment Management Co.

A new report today shows a similar trend with investments at the Teachers Retirement System of Texas.

You can see, though, that even though the TRS has gained $16 billion in value since February, it still has a long way to go to get back to the high valuation of $118 billion in October 2007.

The charts are intersting because they show the real downturn in the economy began almost a year before the crash.

The economic downturn is not as bad for a retirement fund like TRS because it’s investments have to pay off over a 30-year period to the state’s retired teachers. That gives time for a strong economic recovery in the future.
